An intelligent design that consolidates family and business needs together yet separately in one house whilst achieving ‘Minergie’ eco standards.
The clients are the well-known graphic artist and typographer couple. The couple’s brief to zo2 was to create a space where they could achieve work-life balance under one roof with clearly defined zones between family living and business. There was also a desire to create an eco friendly home and utilise a timber construction method.
The concept from zo2 was both functional and geometric. By organising the villa geometrically around the staircase (the core structural element) they were able to separate the family living and business zones horizontally. Thus achieving form and function consolidated in one space.
The setting in Vers-chez-les-Blancs is calm and idyllic with open fields, a forest and even a Silent Hotel nearby. Unfortunately this dream location came with nightmare building regulations and a lengthy approvals process based on the client’s desire for a visually appealing design. zo2 was able to work with the local authorities to maintain the integrity of the design whilst meeting the strict planning guidelines and the project has now received a green light to commence building.
